Instagram Content To Show Up in Google Searches from 10th July 2025

Google Search for Instagram Notification

This is a BIG change for Instagram content and a game-changer for visibility.

From July 10, 2025, Instagram will allow Google (and other search engines) to index posts from public professional accounts.

This means your Reels, carousels, videos, and photos could start showing up in Google search results, introducing you and your content to a whole new audience. So if you've ever wished your Instagram content had a longer shelf life or reached beyond the app, your wish is coming true.

But with great visibility comes the need for smart strategy, so let’s take a look at it in a bit more detail.

What exactly is changing?

Instagram is starting to automatically index public posts from professional accounts (Business or Creator accounts) so they can appear in search engines like Google and Bing.

This applies to posts shared from January 2020 onwards, and the rollout begins on Thursday 10th July 2025.

Does this affect you?

Yes — if:

  • You have a professional account

  • Your profile is public

  • You’re 18 or older

No — if:

  • You’re using a personal or private account

  • You’re under 18

  • You switch off the new search engine indexing setting (see below for more details)

How to enable the update

Go to:

  • Burger Menu (three lines, top right of your profile)

  • Settings & Activity

  • Account Privacy

  • Toggle ON ‘Allow public photos and videos in search engine results’

  • Equally, if you don’t wish your results to show up in Google searches, toggle this OFF

How to enable Google search for your Instagram content

Why this matters for your business

The benefits of this change could be far-reaching and include:

  • Potential for additional reach - your content could show up in Google search results, introducing you to new audiences > growth

  • Your content will work harder for you. You’re showing up in two places at once with no extra effort.

  • Older evergreen posts could gain fresh traction - Amazing news! All that hard work is paying off 🙌

How to optimise your Instagram for Google search

To make sure your posts are Google-ready, try these tips:

Optimising your account and content is key, so here are a few things you can do to get ahead of the game 👇

Use keyword-rich captions
Describe your post clearly using terms your ideal client might search.

Geo-tag posts (location tags)
Especially if you're a local business! This helps with local SEO.

Add alt text to your posts
Instagram lets you manually write alt text—use this space to describe your content using relevant keywords.

Use text overlays in Reels
Google can’t “watch” videos, but it can read the text you include.

Keep your content evergreen
This includes tips, tutorials, and FAQs. Posts that will continue to be useful beyond their point of launch.

My advice is to start optimising now

Do a quick profile audit:

  • Check your settings - Toggle ON the ability to show up in Google searches

  • Optimise your Instagram Bio (use my free Instagram Bio Checklist for this)

  • Use relevant hashtags & add missing alt text where needed

  • Plan your future posts with SEO in mind - do a deep dive on keywords for your business.

This new feature could bring a lot more eyes to your account as long as your content is optimised and ready!

I hope you found this helpful.
